Lake Erie shores hug the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, and the province of Ontario, Canada. Cabins offer family-friendly lodging to enjoy the region’s beaches, boating and destination communities.
New York and Pennsylvania Cabins
Virginia’s Beach Lakefront Cottages & Camping at North Springfield, Pennsylvania, offers 1, 100 feet of beach, a playground, kayak rentals and a catch and release pond. The gated resort has five lodging options, including standard and deluxe cottages and cabins that offer a variety of amenities. Units accommodate a minimum of two adults and two children. Each includes a fire ring and picnic table. Lake Erie State Park at Brockton, New York, features bass and walleye fishing, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds and birding opportunities. Its 10 basic cabins each sleep a maximum of four people and overlook Lake Erie. Minimum stays between two and 14 nights are required. Both the state park and Virginia’s Beach Lakefront Cottages have cabins available from mid-May to mid-October.
Ohio Island Stays
Family-oriented Taylor’s Resort - along Marblehead Peninsula - sits in the heart of Ohio’s vacation land. Situated beside Lake Erie’s Sandusky Bay, Taylor’s eight two-bedroom cottages accommodate up to six people. Amenities include screened porches, grills, a private beach, a playground area and volleyball and badminton facilities. Open from late April through mid-October, Taylor’s is just minutes from Cedar Point Amusement Park. Marblehead ferries transport tourists to Ohio’s Lake Erie outer islands, including Kelleys Island, home to Pleasant View Cottages. Situated along the south shore, units are available April to November. Six cabins rent weekly or monthly. Each sleeps up to six people and offers a rustic knotty pine interior, fully equipped kitchen, campfire pit and marina access. Kelleys Island recreation options include bike rentals, hiking, fossil hunting, boating and fishing.
Log Cabin Experiences in Michigan
Harbortown RV Resort, along Michigan’s Lake Erie coast at Monroe, has 400-square-foot log cabins that sleep up to eight people. Amenities include a full kitchen, bathroom, picnic table, fire ring and screened porch. A go-kart track, mini golf, arcade and ice cream shop, batting cages and an outdoor swimming pool are all on site. Lake Erie’s largest public boat launch is just a half-mile from the year-round resort.
Ontario's Lake Erie Lodging
Bayview Cottages sit along the north shore of Canada’s Pelee Island in western Lake Erie’s Scudder Bay. Bayview’s four cottages rent from April through October and accommodate between four and eight people. Each has picnic tables, grills and lawn chairs. Families can walk to the island store, local eateries or the marina. Local attractions include the Kite Museum and Fish Point Nature Preserve, as well as biking trails and self-guided or guided island tours. The tourist town of Port Dover, along the north shore of Lake Erie, is home to Maple Court Cottages. Four year-round two-bedroom cottages and a bungalow provide a patio, fire pit, picnic table and shore access. The short trek into town links guests to a sandy swimming beach, theater, lighthouse and pier, along with an array of festivals and the town’s iconic Arbor hot dog stand.
