Fishing Report for tomorrow
After much irresolution, we have finally nailed a date that works for all parties involved..
The Catfish tournament will be April 29th..(2017)
Our plan is to have the registration on Friday evening on the 28th..
The guys from NM Game & Fish will be there to give an informal oration on the elusive Siluriforme.
a.k.a. — Catfish..
Kris Flores has built quite a small business around catfish… he is on board to help us also…
We plan on starting the tournament at 7 am on Saturday and have the weigh in at 3 pm.. followed by a short awards ceremony..
We have yet to draw up detailed rules.. they should be posted in the next couple of weeks…
We have never done this sort of tournament before.. so any input will be welcome…
just reply to this blog….
On the fishin’ report side of things….
Still slow.. water is averaging in the mid 50 deg. range… Several folks have been showing up to start hunting for fish..
no one has anything to report yet.. Just today we had the first group of Walleye fishermen go out..
I will do my best to get the poop as often as I can and post it…
If you have yet to get the honey-do list done… you’ve had all winter… why start now…
dust off the fishin’ gear and come & see us…
well there is not much to report..as usual this time of year..
All species have run and hid… even the catfish are slow..
We are starting to get some fishermen through on weekends.. live bait seems to be the bait of choice..
If there is anything biting, it will be along main lake points and cliffs … around 25 feet deep or so..
On the up side.. the lake is rising fast.. Contrary to previous reports, the lake levels should be good this year. We have had good
rains up north in the last few months.. there is an above average snow pack upstream just waiting to melt and move down here…
Our catfish tournament is still scheduled for March 11th.. So put it on your calendar.. I have been jumpin’ through my butt for the last month or so.. so I still do not have details.. But I promise that I will post em’ in the next week or so.. Still getting logistics together, like rules, entry fees… etc…
The weather is going to be very nice this weekend.. So put off the “honey-do” list one more week and come see us..
try to find some fish for me to report…
fishing has been pretty challenging lately.. that’s artistic way of sayin’ that it ain’t good..
Blacks and Smallies are still being caught very deep.. as last weeks report indicated…
Catfish are still very good..
Hey, put this on your calendar… The NM Game & Fish are joining in with us to put on a Catfish Tournament ..
The official date is the weekend of March 11, 2017.
Do not have the rules or details ironed out yet.. But I should be a blast.. So put that weekend on your “Gotta Do” calendar..
I will post the details sometime in the month of Jan. so that you can start brewing your bait…
NOTICE… we will be CLOSED during the week between Christmas and New Year.. Closing on Dec. 24th, then opening back up on Monday Jan 2nd… So don’t show up and try to by bait.. If you have a trip planned.. go ahead and email me.. Maybe we can figure out a way to get you some.. Don’t show up if I do not respond…
MERRY CHRISTMAS YA’LL
Hug your family… then come see us..
sorry for the delay in getting reports posted… Fortunately, we have been really busy during the winter season..
That is the excuse that I am going to use..
The fishing is slow to moderate, better than most winter seasons..
White Bass are scattered and sporadic..Jigs and spoons at 20 feet or deeper. No patterns to report,
but they seem to be running solo or in small groups along flat sandy bottoms.
Justin Orr is finding largemouth and smallmouth on the main channel points. Fairly deep at 25 – 40 feet. Back & blue jigs with 3 inch trailer spoons and drop shot..
The fish of the season is CATFISH.. Just about anything that smells dead will work.. Local folks have reported good size Cats caught bank fishing north of Rock Canyon Marina. Tight-lining with liver and night crawlers..
Big Cats and lots of em’ are being caught on trot lines off of main lake points at 20-30 feet.
Duck hunting has been really good. But you are gonna’ work for em. The best results are up north off of suspended water that is not accessible by boat. So you gotta’ hike in and hike out.. But be careful, Justin and Frank have a few stories of stranded or stuck hunters. Make sure that someone knows that you are up there..
thanks to Colin Jackson for this report.. he sent me an email to get me off my butt and get a new report out.. Which goes to show ya’.. i will respond to your requests.. so don’t hesitate to reply..
Just because it’s winter, you can still come fishin’ .. You just gotta’ work harder at it and try stuff that you never have done before..
